Aquatics program full for summer; swim lessons and pool rentals booked through August

Bianca, the aquatics staff member, told commissioners the summer aquatics season is fully underway: swim‑lesson sessions that began June 1 are filling quickly, several classes have wait lists, and club‑team practices and rentals at Haines, Rainbow and the Rio Rancho Aquatic Center are largely booked through August.

Bianca said open recreation swim schedules vary by facility (the Rio Rancho Aquatic Center is open Wednesday through Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Haines and Rainbow operate 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily during the summer session). She also noted new benches at the aquatic center to improve spectator seating and said staff have been contacting people on wait lists to fill openings.

Commissioners asked whether the city could revive 'movies in the park' programming; staff and commissioners discussed alternatives, including ‘dive‑in’ pool movies that avoid wind problems but raise safety and lighting challenges. Bianca said current pool rules limit flotation devices and that adequate lighting to maintain lifeguard sight lines would be required for any pool‑based movie nights.
