Harvey Cedars commissioners adopt $250,000 improvement appropriation, approve contracts and event permits

The Harvey Cedars Board of Commissioners on Sept. 15 adopted Ordinance No. 2025-020, providing $250,000 for various borough improvements and authorizing the issuance of $237,500 in bonds or notes to finance the work. The measure passed after public discussion was opened and closed; Commissioners voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance.
At the same meeting, the board approved several procurement contracts and contract change orders. Resolutions authorized Change Order #3 for the Sunset Park gazebo roof and handicap ramp project (an increase of $5,764), awarded a mower and equipment contract to Central Jersey Equipment LLC for $27,344.46 under ESCNJ cooperative pricing, and awarded a utility task vehicle and plow equipment to Ocean County Equipment Inc for $28,608.19 under Ocean County contract pricing. The board also approved Change Order #1 for the 2025 bulkhead replacement project (Essex, 78th & 86th Streets), increasing that contract by $27,962 to a total of $422,152.
The commissioners adopted a series of event and property-usage permits, including an Association of Surf Angling Clubs access permit for Oct. 11, 2025; the St. Francis Community Center 18-mile run on Oct. 12, 2025; the Bay Terrace block party (Oct. 4, 2025) with up to 100 attendees; multiple 2026 Harvey Cedars Beach Patrol and Lifeguard-in-Training events; several Scholastic Surfing Contest dates and the NSSA NE Regional High School Surfing Championships; and location and date windows for filming by Michael Furno in October. Several event approvals included requests for additional trash cans.
The board also passed Resolution No. 2025-104 appointing John Verez IV as a Class II Special Law Enforcement Officer, and adopted a holiday schedule for 2026 and a proclamation designating Oct. 19–25, 2025, as National Friends of the Libraries Week in the borough. The board honored Lifeguard Seamus “Moose” Carey with a commendation for life-saving assistance provided July 30, 2025.
