Library reports new equipment, policies and facility changes; Trivia Night drew a full house

Library Administrator Shawnie Kennedy presented a range of operational updates at the March 11 advisory board meeting. She said the library will receive a DVD repair machine to buff surface scratches, and that she has written her first PRT article and plans to contribute one monthly. Kennedy reported a successful Trivia Night with a full house and said an Astronomy talk had six attendees.
Kennedy said staff are drafting an official pet policy for library use. She also told the board that library staff — and all town employees — will be required to wear a uniform shirt with the town logo. Construction has begun on an addition to provide employee workspace and a break room. The conference room is now available to rent; community nonprofit groups may use it at no cost.
Marilyn Miller of the Friends of the Library described how donated books are cycled (fall Festival sales, teacher and school donations, and placement into mini neighborhood libraries). Miller agreed to provide a copy of the Friends’ Articles of Incorporation to Linda Shore and to give Shawnie the Friends’ full financial status; Marilyn said annual Friends contributions to the library fluctuate and the organization aims to build reserves rather than promise a fixed amount each year.
Board members agreed to volunteer time in the library to help staff and learn procedures.
