The Rutherford County Board of Commissioners approved several budget amendments presented by the finance director to account for recent grants, equipment replacements and storm-related adjustments.
The finance director described grants to the senior center (Gateway Wellness Foundation) and the library (John Henry Eldred Jr. Foundation), requested college capital replacements for a mower and water jetter, and noted a budget line for swift-water rescue equipment tied to a corporate donation. On FEMA-related recovery, the director said the county is estimating roughly 500,000 cubic yards of debris, with an estimated cost of about $11,000,000. "I will be working with FEMA later this week to do an expedited project to get 50% reimbursement drawn down sooner than later," the director said, adding the county expects 100% reimbursement for debris removal and required monitoring.
Commissioners moved and approved the amendments by voice vote. County staff said they will continue to work with FEMA and monitor the reimbursement process; timeline and final reimbursement amounts are subject to FEMA review and approval.
