Ontario Council certifies election results, swears in officials and approves several ordinances

The Ontario City Council certified the results of the Nov. 5, 2024, general municipal election, swore in re-elected and newly elected officials and approved several routine administrative and code amendments in a meeting where ceremonial oaths and brief remarks preceded the council's business.
City legal counsel told the council the county's Exhibit A was on the dais and that it reflected the county's official tally, confirming the re-election of Deborah Perrotta to Council District 1, the election of Daisy Macias to Council District 4, the election of Sheila Motts as city clerk and James Millhiser as city treasurer. Wagner moved to adopt the resolution as updated and Bowman seconded; the council approved the certification by electronic vote 4-0, with Councilmember Valencia absent.
After certification the city clerk administered oaths of office. Jim Millhiser, sworn as treasurer, thanked the council and said it was "truly an honor to serve the citizens of Ontario." Deborah Perrotta, sworn to another four-year term on the council, told the audience she was "so excited to be able to spend another 4 years" pursuing her priorities for the city. Daisy Macias, the newly elected councilmember, described herself as "grateful and excited to be part of this amazing team."
On consent and public hearing items, the council considered two Mills Act contracts for designated historic properties and approved them after no public comment; the item passed unanimously. The council also adopted an ordinance amending the municipal code to add alternative building standards for adaptive reuse projects; that ordinance passed on a 5-0 vote. Later the council approved an amendment to the municipal code relating to emergency organization by a 5-0 vote.
Several community speakers used the public comment period to highlight local events and services, including a toy drive by the Ontario Future Alliance, a Little League update for Latimer Field and an upcoming document-shredding event at the city yard.
The council recessed briefly for ceremonial photos after oaths and reconvened to finish business; Mayor Leon closed the meeting and said the next scheduled meeting is Dec. 17.
