Commissioners reviewed recent community engagement and upcoming events at the May 18 meeting.
Commissioners reported that the May 15 concert at Town Square had one of the largest attendances to date; Commissioner Laura Reeves distributed blackberry seedlings that were gone within about 15 minutes. Members praised the band (Vince Martin) and the Moobile burger truck. Planning for the July 1 America 250 event at Drace Park was reported as complete.
Staff liaison Anne Nixon described America 250 logistics: a West County fire truck sprinkler to kick off the event for about 15 minutes, tattoos, coloring sheets, patriotic music, lawn games, and an abbreviated reading of the Declaration of Independence by community members. Winterfest planning meetings have begun and occur approximately monthly; Commissioner Hayar Tomioka volunteered to join the Winterfest Committee. In Other business, Tomioka recommended considering a World Cup celebration in Town & Country to build community spirit.
The meeting record lists next meeting dates (6/15, 8/17, 10/19 and 12/15) and then adjourns at 7:42 PM.
