Danbury Planning Commission approves special-exception resolution for Cedar Gables day care expansion

On Sept. 4, 2024, the Danbury Planning Commission voted to approve a draft resolution granting special-exception site-plan approval for Barnum Real Estate LLC to expand the Cedar Gables day care at 15 Barnum Road in the RA‑40 zone. The resolution was adopted with the conditions detailed in the draft dated Aug. 29, 2024.

Staff member Ali said the resolution was "pretty standard" and noted two outstanding staff reports that must be resolved as conditions of approval: completion of a fully designed septic plan tied to a variance and engineering review of the design revisions submitted in recent weeks. Ali also noted that the public-hearing dates in the draft would be corrected to show that the hearing opened Aug. 7 and closed Aug. 21.

Commissioner Helen Hostetter moved to approve the corrected draft resolution with the conditions stated in the Aug. 29 document; Commissioner Kevin seconded. The chair called for a voice vote and members voted in favor; the commission approved the draft resolution of approval with conditions. The commission did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript; the outcome was announced as approved.

The action approves the special-exception site-plan for expansion but leaves the outstanding technical items to be completed under the resolution's conditions. Staff identified the septic design/variance and the engineering department review as unresolved at the time of the vote. The commission did not reopen the public-hearing record during this meeting.

Following the vote the meeting moved on to referrals and clerical items, and then adjourned.
