County staff report timber harvest income and temporary takeover of dam operations

On Continental Dam, staff said repairs remain on schedule but the county’s hydroelectric operator is no longer available; county staff and the water resource specialist are temporarily taking over dam operations, checking water levels multiple times daily and adjusting gates to maintain DNR standard water levels. Staff said they are coordinating with Spectrum to temporarily relocate an Internet line during construction and that they have an outstanding memorandum of understanding request with Big Rocha Cree (name provided in meeting materials) to operate or assist with daily operations; staff said they have not received a response and may need a contingency plan if an agreement is not reached.
Staff did not report additional financial concerns and said overall spending is on target subject to the contracted services fee that had not yet been recorded in finance at month end.
