Supervisor suspends Alameda County planning meeting for lack of quorum; items continued to Aug. 8

The supervisor halted the Alameda County planning commission meeting at its opening because a quorum was not present, saying the panel could not be called to order and that the agenda would be continued.

A committee member told the supervisor that, because the meeting would not be held, “staff will bring those back to you at your next board planning meeting, which is August 9, I believe,” prompting corrections to the date. The supervisor and others confirmed the items will be continued to Aug. 8.

The supervisor stated plainly, “I unfortunately cannot call this meeting to order. We do not have a quorum.” A committee member then questioned whether three members on the call constituted a quorum, saying, “We we have a quorum of 3, don't we? I'm on, and Lena and Alisa make 3,” and adding that supervisors who were outside the county’s jurisdiction could not be counted for quorum purposes.

Because of the lack of a quorum, no motions or votes were held. The meeting was suspended and the recording stopped shortly afterward. Staff will return the scheduled agenda items at the board planning meeting on Aug. 8.
