City staff told the Castle Pines City Council on April 8 that Douglas County plans to begin bridge repair work on Hess Road outside city limits starting April 14 and estimated the work could take up to 90 days, though the county is pushing for a 60-day schedule. The county will use alternating traffic controls and flaggers, which staff said should reduce the need for wide detours while still producing delays.
"They're estimating it's gonna take 90 days, I would say, unofficially. They're pushing for 60 days...they're gonna alternate traffic going each way," the city manager reported, noting the county revised a previous plan to avoid a full westbound closure after coordination with local municipalities.
Council members asked for more detail about how queuing and rotations will be handled and whether delays might back up to Castle Pines Parkway. The manager said the county's plan is not expected to affect the city's key intersections but agreed to ask the county for routing and queuing information and to notify the council when more specifics are available.
The city asked residents to anticipate delays near Hess Road during the repair window and said staff would follow up with the county on timing and mitigation plans.
