Council issues proclamations honoring Maryland Black Chamber and National Pan Hellenic Council; recognizes Road Safety Month

At the Feb. 25 session the council read proclamations honoring the Maryland Black Chamber of Commerce’s 10th anniversary, recognized February as Road Safety Month citing state and county crash statistics, and presented a proclamation to the Montgomery County chapter of the National Pan Hellenic Council.
The Montgomery County Council used parts of its Feb. 25 meeting to present proclamations and recognitions.
In the morning the council honored the Maryland Black Chamber of Commerce on its 10th anniversary (founded 04/23/2015 in Rockville) and cited the chamber’s statewide work, growth to 690 members in 2024 and more than 3,000 businesses and individuals served last year.
The council also recognized February as Road Safety Month. Council members cited Maryland Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office statistics noting 557 statewide traffic fatalities in 2024 and 47 in Montgomery County, and highlighted county programs including Vision Zero, the Safe Streets Act and Safe Routes to Schools. County DOT, Vision Zero staff and community advocates joined the council for a brief ceremonial pass-the-mic and introductions of local safety partners.
In the afternoon the council recognized the Montgomery County chapter of the National Pan Hellenic Council (NPHC) and read a proclamation outlining the organization’s history, service and membership of 14 affiliated alumnae chapters in the county. David Harris, who introduced himself as NPHC Montgomery County president, briefly addressed the council.
