Committee approves $4.3 million for Public Safety Communications Center electrical and HVAC upgrades

The Montgomery County Public Safety Committee approved, by acclamation, a $4.3 million amendment and supplemental appropriation to the FY25 capital budget for the Public Safety Communications Center Phase 2 electrical distribution and HVAC upgrades.

Council staff analyst Susan Farag said the package ‘‘totals $4,300,000’’ with ‘‘$3,100,000 which are G.O. bond funded and $1,200,000 is state aid.’’ She added the project is also shifting $1,300,000 from the Clarksburg Fire Station project because of savings realized there.

The supplemental funding breaks down into $2.2 million for mechanical improvements, $1.1 million for roof replacement and related work, and $2.3 million for electrical improvements, Farag said. ‘‘Council staff is recommending approval as submitted by the executive,’’ she told the committee.

Committee members agreed to approve the amendment by acclamation. The chair also invited committee members to the Clarksburg fire station grand opening scheduled for Friday.

The packet attached a racial equity impact assessment that concluded the supplemental funding is ‘‘unlikely to have any impact on racial disparities or inequities related to emergency response, public safety, or other essential functions,’’ Farag said. The council will record the formal appropriation in its capital budget process and staff indicated project cost changes and funding shifts were included in the supplemental documents for council review.

The committee did not record roll-call votes during the session; staff recorded the approval by acclamation and will include the formal appropriation language in the council record before the full council considers the budget amendment.
