Preston School District Board adopts policy on sexual offenders, accepts budget report

The Preston School District Board of Education on April 7 adopted Policy 3516.5 (Sexual Offenders on School Property) following a second reading and accepted the district's February year-to-date budget report, both by unanimous votes.
Superintendent Dr. Roy Seitsinger opened the update portion of the meeting by noting receipt of a Civil Rights letter and other correspondence related to federal Board of Education developments, and he said state and federal communications are arriving frequently. He also reported community highlights, including Preston winning a fourth state athletic championship this year and district observances for Military Child Month. An updated cadence calendar was shared with the board.
During the business portion, the board completed the second reading of Policy 3516.5. The policy was described in the agenda as "Sexual Offenders on School Property" and the board moved to adopt it as recommended (motion by Michael Hinton; second by Deborah Burke-Grabarek). The motion carried unanimously.
Director of Finance Cindy Varricchio presented the February year-to-date budget report and the board voted to accept the report (motion by Deborah Burke-Grabarek; second by Courtney Ennis). Varricchio noted that a Non-Lapsing Account has been established and that capital projects will be reviewed by the Board of Finance (BOF) once budgets are set. The BOF is scheduled to meet in the PPMS library at 7 p.m. on April 10 to set FY26 budgets.
Under reports, Preston PTO representative Kelly McNamara provided a schedule of upcoming events, including Science Night and a Book Fair at PVMS on April 22, the Son Plus One dance on May 9 and field day in June. Principals and the director of student services outlined school activities and student supports: Ray Bernier (PVMS) previewed SBAC testing and recent student events; Chris Pickett (PPMS) highlighted state championships and NFA placement testing that can earn high-school credit; Craig King reported conducting 70 PPTs and 40 Section 504 meetings this year and noted state changes to dyslexia identification.
Committee reports were brief. Finance and Building Needs Assessment reported no recent meetings; the BOF will convene April 10. The Communications Committee reviewed a parent grading survey and plans a follow-up visit to NFA. Dr. Seitsinger noted his participation with CABE planning for next year's convention.
The meeting closed after the board voted to adjourn at 7:59 p.m. (motion by Deborah Burke-Grabarek; second by Cindy Luty).
