Greene City Council adopts four resolutions on resurfacing, training and policing contracts

At its April 8, 2025, meeting the Greene City Council voted to adopt four resolutions covering public-safety training, police contracting and road resurfacing.

The council unanimously adopted Resolution 2025-R09 authorizing the mayor to apply to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) for a $9,150 hazardous-materials training grant to fund outside training for fire personnel. Finance Committee Chair Neugebauer summarized the request and said the fire division would pursue the outside instructor if the grant is awarded; if not, the department will use in-house training.

Council also adopted two related policing items. Resolution 2025-R10 approves a policing contract with the Summit County Sheriff's Office covering use of space, utilities and equipment for fiscal years Jan. 1, 2024, through Dec. 31, 2026; Resolution 2025-R11 amends that contract to add the City of Greene as an insured party on the sheriff's coverage. Public Safety Committee Chair Miller described those items as largely housekeeping and said they reflect credits and contract clarifications discussed at committee.

On infrastructure, the council adopted Resolution 2025-R08, awarding the 2025 resurfacing contract to Barber Case Construction Co., Inc. Committee materials show the base bid of $646,007.25 plus an alternate for Comet Lane brought the total to $721,769.45. The Transportation, Connectivity & Stormwater Committee and city staff described the work as part of the annual resurfacing program; the item was approved on third reading.

All four measures were approved by roll-call vote with the council recording unanimous support at the meeting. The clerk recorded the motions, seconds and roll-call tallies during each vote.

The council did not take final action on several other transportation items that remain under review and were given additional time in committee.
