Briarcliffe Acres election commission verifies three council candidate petitions, sets poll worker timeline

The Municipal Election Commission of Briarcliffe Acres verified three candidate petitions for the 2025 General Election at a meeting Friday, and set a timeline to confirm and train resident poll workers ahead of the election.

Chair Dawn Johnsen-Potter opened the meeting at 9:30 a.m. with a quorum present and the commission approved the July minutes on the consent agenda. Present were Commissioner Dave Steed and Town Clerk Jennifer B. Newbold; Commissioner Cindy Huggins was recorded as absent.

Town Clerk Jennifer B. Newbold confirmed that three petitions were received for three open council seats and identified the candidates as Jennifer Kuperman, Sam Miller and Laura Pendley. The clerk said the candidates’ terms will begin Dec. 15, 2025, and that she will deliver the petitions to the Horry County Election Commission immediately following the meeting.

During Old Business commissioners reviewed election timeline and notice dates and agreed that resident poll workers should be solidified by the October meeting and that their training should be complete by that time. Chair Dawn Johnsen-Potter advised commissioners to watch for a training email from the County Election Commission.

There were no matters requiring attention and no public input during the meeting. The commission scheduled its next meeting for Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 9:45 a.m. The minutes were submitted and signed by Town Clerk Jennifer B. Newbold.
