During the mayor’s report, the mayor said Summit Connect’s public-safety fiber network construction began Jan. 12 in Greene, starting at Cottage Grove and Jarvis Road and progressing south. The project is part of a 130-mile regional effort to link 31 Summit County communities with a fiber backbone intended to improve communications for law enforcement, fire services and other government operations.
The mayor reported about $29,000 in event sponsorships to date for 2026 city events and named several sponsors, including Sarah Auto Park, Twisted Olive, Consumers Bank, Evans Insurance, Direction Home and Greet Magazine. He also announced that Renew Mission Thrift Store opened at 4875 South Main Street and said the city will move toward paperless distribution of city tax forms while offering mailing on request and in-person pickup at the Green Branch Library.
The mayor invited the public to the State of the City on Jan. 29 at Greene High School Auditorium (doors open at 6 p.m.), and previewed the Feb. 28 Battle of the Slice fundraiser, a new winter event supporting the Green Schools Foundation with ticketed pizza-tasting sessions and voting for community pizza places.
No formal action was taken on these announcements; the mayor’s presentation was informational.
