Murray described past outreach efforts and noted that the Ulster County Department of Social Services handled about 2,000 cases in the past year and a cumulative 10,000 cases since 2021. He said that in 2025, 107 children were placed in foster care and mandated reporters documented 168 cases during that period. Murray praised child-protection staff and emphasized the importance of education, advocacy and resources to prevent abuse — saying, “Every child deserves a safe, nurturing environment.”
Murray also listed county partners working on child-protection and prevention, including Family of Woodstock, YWCA/YMCA, Ulster County Mental Health - Children's Way, the Ulster County Youth Bureau and others. The remarks were delivered as part of the meeting’s closing words and were recorded in the minutes.
