A staff presenter said the city is trying to acquire privately owned strips of land to expand contiguous open space.
Commissioner Sebastian Giuliano said the area is part of the local trap‑rock ridge landscape that deserves preservation and cited the city's record of open-space awards. The commission moved and approved the acquisition.
