The Danbury City Council met in executive session on Sept. 5 to discuss pending tax-appeal litigation involving Abbey Woods LLC and returned to public session to authorize settlement and certify funding.
Corporation counsel’s communication said certain tax-appeal cases that exceed value thresholds require council approval to resolve. Item materials identified Abbey Woods Residential Complex as having reached a recommended settlement acceptable to both plaintiff and the city assessor; corporation counsel and outside litigation counsel were directed to present recommendations in executive session.
After the closed session, Council President Peter Bousaid moved to authorize the resolution of the pending legal matter in accordance with the executive-session discussion and to certify the funding as provided. The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. The council closed the meeting after taking that action.
No settlement amount or other substantive terms were provided in the public portion of the record; the council’s vote authorized city officials to effectuate the settlement consistent with the executive-session discussion.
