The Danbury City Council on Sept. 5 confirmed the mayor’s appointment of Daniel Fortunato to the Danbury Police Department as a certified police officer.
The mayor transmitted a communication introducing Fortunato’s appointment, noting his prior service with the Groton Police Department since April 2021 and certifications in rifle use, crisis intervention and accident investigation. Councilwoman Lapine moved to approve the appointment; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
After the vote the appointee—who spoke briefly to the council—thanked members and said, "I look forward to working with the Danbury Police Department and serving the town and city of Danbury." The mayor congratulated Fortunato and invited him to remain but said attendance at the full meeting was not required.
No amendments or conditions were attached to the confirmation. The appointment was approved by voice vote at the meeting.
