The Placentia City Council unanimously approved five items on the consent calendar and adopted its annual appointments to intergovernmental agencies and local advisory bodies at its Jan. 13 meeting.
Councilmember Smith moved to approve the consent calendar; the clerk recorded a 5-0 vote in favor. The mayor announced that a scheduled public hearing (Item 2) was canceled and will be re-noticed for a future meeting.
On the regular agenda, Mayor Vanka presented the annual list of appointments and asked for any changes. The council adopted the slate by motion and second and approved it by a recorded 5-0 vote. Among the assignments announced were: Association of California Cities OC (Mayor Vanka, alternate Councilmember Hummer); the Civic Center Joint Use Committee (Councilmembers Smith and Kerwin); the public financing authority for the EIFD (Councilmember Smith and Mayor Vanka); the finance and investment committee (Mayor Pro Tem Yamaguchi to replace Kerwin); the financial audit oversight committee (Kerwin and Smith); the heritage committee (Yamaguchi and Hummer); the historic preservation ad hoc (Kerwin and Mayor Vanka); and the Orange County Vector Control District appointment moved to Councilmember Hummer to complete the remaining one-year term.
Former Mayor Kerwin urged residents to volunteer for local commissions, noting the city seeks applicants for bodies including the financial audit oversight committee, heritage committee, senior advisory, planning commission, streetscape and transportation advisory commission and the public financing authority; Kerwin said, "If you care or if you wanna complain, join one of these commissions ... it's pretty easy to do." The mayor asked council members to review an updated committee and commission manual; staff will bring the manual back for adoption at a future meeting.
The council adjourned to its Jan. 27, 2026 meeting at 7 p.m. The appointment slate and consent items passed with no recorded dissent.
