Commission backs lease referrals for Summit building police substation and emergency staging

The Danbury Planning Commission on July 17 voted to forward positive referrals to City Council for two lease agreements with SCL Office LLC to allow use of space at the Summit building (100 Reserve Road). Planning staff said the leases would accommodate a police substation and an alternate emergency operations center as well as space for staging and mass distribution of emergency commodities.
Acting planning director Jennifer Aminger described the agreements’ purpose and said staff had no objection to a positive referral provided the Office of Corporation Counsel reviews and approves final lease terms. Aminger said the police substation lease would use approximately 9,950 square feet of space at the Summit (100 Reserve Road); the commodity‑staging lease covers designated distribution, staging and loading areas to be used after declared local disasters.
Commissioners moved and approved positive referrals by voice vote, with members noting the leases support emergency planning. The referrals are subject to corporate‑counsel review and any additional lease terms deemed appropriate by the City Council before final approval.
Next steps: the referrals will go to City Council for review and final lease approval; staff will coordinate corporate‑counsel review before the council acts.
