Councilmembers offered congratulatory remarks and invited the team forward for a group photo and formal presentation.
The council then adopted a second proclamation declaring June 16 Women's Rugby Day and honoring Angelina Lomu for her career as a player and coach and for returning to East Palo Alto to mentor young athletes. Councilmembers highlighted Lomu's international experience and local leadership in youth sports.
Both proclamations were adopted by voice vote; the council recessed briefly for photos after the presentations.
