Tustin proclaims 2026 drowning prevention campaign; OCFA urges water-safety education

TUSTIN — The City Council adopted a drowning prevention and awareness proclamation endorsing the 2026 water‑safety campaign, “Always Watch the Water / Never Swim Alone,” and invited Orange County Fire Authority Chief Morgan Stern to speak.
Chief Stern thanked the council and highlighted OCFA resources for drowning prevention, including education about life jackets, pool fencing and CPR training, and encouraged residents to visit ocfa.org for materials and classes. “Drowning prevention education...ensuring that all of you our partners in the city of Tustin, have resources to share with our communities,” the chief said.
The proclamation notes that drowning can occur quickly and in as little as two inches of water and encourages families, schools and local organizations to increase awareness and preparedness between May and August 2026. Council members and community partners joined the chief for a photo on the dais after the proclamation.
