Bernardsville Public Library reports attendance and programming gains after renovation

Fran Daly, director of the Bernardsville Public Library, gave a year-end review noting a successful 2025 marked by a full interior renovation, restored pre-COVID hours and an expanded program slate.
Daly said the library saw visits rise about 9.2% year over year and program attendance increase 10.5%, with nearly 5,000 library cardholders in a borough of around 7,800 residents. She credited strategic programming, off-site events and improved scheduling tools; the library served children with expanded story times, hosted 900 programs last year and began offering daily lunches during the summer through community sponsorship.
Renovation highlights include a larger children's room, additional meeting and conference spaces that can seat 12–14 people, and operational changes that restored evening hours. Daly said the library would launch a "library of things" in March and has restricted community-room reservations primarily to borough residents, Bernardsville nonprofits and co-sponsored programs to ensure local access amid high demand.
Council members congratulated Daly and noted the library’s role as a civic space for meetings, cultural events and educational programming. The council encouraged public visits and thanked staff and volunteers for the renovation and programming efforts.
The library director offered to provide slides to council members and said the library will continue focusing on community value and outreach.
