Student Representative Cole Harbison described recent and upcoming student activities and recognitions at the Jan. 21 board meeting.
Harbison reported preschool family events that brought 22 families together, a holiday toy drive that produced 124 gift bags for Jersey Shore Children’s Hospital, and the Cozy Up to Kindness initiative to collect items for Lunch Break. He also announced that the Admiral Players will present Disney's The Descendants in March (performances March 13 at 7 p.m.; March 14 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.) and that ticket sales will be at the door. Harbison listed Poetry Out Loud finalists and noted that Evelynn (Evie) Knox will advance to the regional competition Feb. 11 at Ocean County College.
Superintendent Dr. Tara Beams also noted that Henry Hudson Regional School was named to the AP Honor Roll. The board recognized staff tenure milestones and Students/Staff of the Month across district buildings. National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society activities were highlighted, including a $170 donation to Lunch Break, $400 in gift cards donated by NHS members, and volunteer work at the Fulfill Food Pantry.
The board did not take separate votes on these recognitions; they were presented as part of routine reports and acknowledgments.
