Wild Acres plan would repair fishing hut, maintain southern boardwalk

Chair Danielle Steinmann opened the meeting of the Pittsfield Community Preservation Committee on March 16, 2026. City staff presented a proposed Wild Acres project to repair an existing fishing hut and perform maintenance on the park’s southern boardwalk.
Jim McGrath, speaking for the City of Pittsfield, said the project is twofold: repair the fishing hut and address boardwalk maintenance on the park’s south side as part of a larger dam maintenance effort. He told the committee the park remains open year-round and that an ADA trail was installed there several years ago by the nonprofit Greenagers to improve access.
Committee members asked about boardwalk elevation and accessibility; David Pill noted that some boardwalk sections may be elevated above the ground given the terrain, and committee members emphasized that accessibility remains a concern for the city.
No formal vote on funding for Wild Acres was taken at the March 16 meeting; the project was presented for the committee’s review and will be considered alongside other applications.
