Councilwoman Jeanette Blackwell moved approval and cited the lease terms, which include a nominal or zero monthly rent in the initial period and escalating monthly and annual rents in later years. Council members discussed parking—Director Christine Marks confirmed the lease designates 44 parking spaces for Tate’s—and agreed to pursue clearer signage and a parking plan. "It is on the lease that we have before us this evening... we currently are leasing 44 spaces to Tate’s," one councilor said during discussion.
Council members also raised the prospect of rooftop solar panels during redevelopment. The council president said vendors are "looking at it" but expressed concerns about roof pitch and capacity; the mayor would report back in a future meeting.
The council voted to approve the lease with no recorded opposition. Proponents thanked the tenant for cooperation during a long redevelopment process.
What happens next: The mayor will finalize the lease documents subject to the office of general counsel’s approval and the administration will return to the council with plans to clarify parking signage and provide an update on rooftop-solar feasibility.
