Council staff (introduced in the meeting as Mr. Emea) told the committee the executive recommended a long-term, 20-year lease to continue the museum’s use of an 880-square-foot space adjacent to the Damascus Library and Senior Center. The staff memorandum noted the museum has operated on the site for 15 years under an agreement dating to 2008 and that no rent has been collected for the last 15 years; staff said no rent is anticipated under the proposed lease term.
A committee staff member reiterated that the request includes the required disposition approval under fair-market-value rules. With no substantive questions from committee members, the Chair said the item will be recommended to the full council for approval.
The committee did not take a formal vote at the meeting; staff characterized the action as a recommendation to forward the matter to the full council for final consideration.
