The Riceville Community School District Board of Education approved several routine items and heard administrative updates during its July 15, 2024 regular meeting in the district board room.
The board voted unanimously to hire Amanda Brunner as a bus driver. The roll-call vote recorded Hale, Eastman, McCarthy, Guertin and Fox as voting aye. The board also approved open enrollment requests — one student to Osage and three to St. Ansgar — and approved the minutes, financial reports and summary of bills.
Superintendent Barb Schwamman briefed the board on district developments, saying the landscape project at district facilities is complete, that the district will share a technology position with Osage, and that the district is pursuing a $2 million daycare fundraiser to expand local childcare capacity. No formal action on the fundraiser was recorded at the meeting.
The board approved by motion the 2024–2025 Riceville Community Preschool Program Policies & Procedures Handbook. Members also voted 5–0 to accept the first reading of a package of board policies, which the agenda listed by number and title, including several Title IX–related rules and procedures, open-enrollment procedures for sending and receiving districts, student promotion and retention, weapons and school nutrition program rules. The board recorded the items as first readings, consistent with the district's policy-adoption process.
Other business included discussion of student cell phone policies; no formal change to policy language was adopted at the meeting. The board announced its next regular meeting is scheduled for August 19, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting was adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
