Businesses urge caution as Land Use Board debates noise, parking and mural rules

Local restaurant owners told the board that the draft parking and mural rules would create unequal standards for existing versus new businesses.
Kim DiDonato, owner of Azzuri, said the proposed ordinances “negatively affect the businesses in town in regards to parking spaces and sizes, off-street parking, and murals.” Tony Marhino asked for clarity about off-site parking and mural regulations. Ashley Pelligrino of Black Eyed Susan raised concerns about employee parking and off-street spaces, and Bob Palestri said townwide enforcement is lacking.
Board attorney Kevin Quinlan responded that new businesses must be designed to current standards. The board did not adopt ordinance changes at the meeting; discussion will continue as staff and counsel refine the draft language and consider enforcement mechanisms.
Public comment highlighted the potential for unequal application of rules between established businesses and newcomers; the board’s next steps will include further review of the draft ordinance language and implementation details before any vote.
