Howard County board extends licensed premises at Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant to cover new gastropub and common spaces

The Howard County Alcohol Beverage Hearing Board unanimously approved an extension of licensed premises for LVMG Hospitality Inc., trading as Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant, to include newly completed construction and associated common spaces.
Steven D. Powell, chief financial officer for Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland, said the community opened in 2016 and recently completed a second phase adding 43 residential-living units, a gastropub (the Artful Dodger), a performing-arts center and a small covered patio. "All three managers of the program and all bartenders are alcohol awareness certified through the state program," Powell told the board.
Powell said the community’s dining and bar facilities are managed under contract by Sodexo and that alcohol service is primarily for residents and their guests, with access controlled by resident badges and concierge staffing. "The badge is an easy way for them to serve the residents without having them pull out an ID each time," he said, noting residents must be 60 or older.
Board members sought clarification on the very large square-footage numbers; Powell explained the license must cover the entire community’s common spaces because alcohol can be served at multiple locations. After deliberation the board moved, seconded and unanimously approved expansion of the licensed premises to 430,478 square feet, including 3,605 square feet of exterior space. The applicants waived the right to appeal at the hearing.
