City manager details downtown shooting response, traffic enforcement gains and staffing updates

Soheini said a traffic enforcement initiative launched in early May has yielded about 1,800 citations and an approximately 80% increase in traffic stops. The city has ordered and will soon install flashing stop signs at Southwest 12th Avenue and Palmetto Park Road.
On staffing, Soheini said the police chief recruitment process has advanced: eight candidates were interviewed and second-round interviews begin June 5, with an offer anticipated around June 9 and a start date for the selected candidate expected between mid-June and mid-July. He also described organizational moves: ocean rescue will transition from Parks & Recreation to Fire Services on July 1; emergency management has moved to Fire Services; park rangers will transfer to the police department with a standard operating procedure under review.
Soheini reported operational recognition and resident-facing items: the city’s water treatment plant received the 2025 Outstanding Water Treatment Plant award from the Florida section of the American Water Works Association for the second consecutive year; development services launched an online project tracker on the city website to replace a static PDF; and the city reminded residents about a clean-and-cut vegetation program and the AlertBoca emergency notification signup.
Soheini closed with calendar notes (a June 18 budget meeting and a June 30 RFQ meeting for the civic area plan) and reminders about September budget scheduling related to state statute deadlines.
