Riceville meeting spotlights Riceville2Riceville fundraiser, daycare update and safety training

At the Oct. 21 board meeting Superintendent Barb Schwamman highlighted the Riceville2Riceville fundraiser and thanked volunteer organizer Ruth Linkenmeyer for a successful event described as a strong learning experience for students.

Student Board Representative Madison Miller delivered updates on homecoming activities, sports postseason play, Manufacturing Day and FFA events including fruit sales, a National FFA Convention attendance and donations. Miller’s report also noted NHS fundraising and Lighthouse homecoming activities.

Little Cats’ Daycare provided a quarterly report the board received that listed an enrollment figure presented as '33to 112,' noted a rate reimbursement tied to a grant, reported 28 staff members, and announced a newly hired office assistant working 10–15 hours weekly. The minutes do not clarify whether '33to 112' describes a range, cumulative figure, age range, or a typographical error; the daycare report packet is the primary source for details.

Director Guertin reported the district had conducted active shooter training at the school. The board also heard that technology-sharing arrangements with Osage are proceeding well. Members discussed progress on the district construction project; no formal action on construction was recorded in the minutes.

Superintendent Schwamman also reported certified enrollment is up and noted participation in a five-year projection workshop and rural school legislative priorities. The board received several staff and HS/MS highlights included in meeting materials.
