Riceville board approves coaches, policy readings and sale of Bus 10

The Board of Education of the Riceville Community School District met Oct. 21, 2024, in the board room and approved a slate of personnel and policy actions, including coaching appointments and the sale of a district bus.
Board President Karl Fox opened the meeting at 6:35 p.m. and the board passed the agenda by motion of Director Guertin, seconded by Director Eastman (5 Ayes, motion carried). Subsequent motions recorded uniformly as 5 Ayes, motion carried unless otherwise noted.
Among the personnel actions, the board accepted the resignation of Sal Gomez as junior varsity boys basketball coach and approved Bryce Conway and Tom Anderlik as co-JV boys basketball coaches. The board also approved volunteer coaches for girls and boys basketball and for girls and boys wrestling; names approved appear in the meeting packet.
On policy, the board approved second readings for multiple policies, including 502.10 (Use of Motor Vehicles), 503.09 (Student Use of Personal Electronic Devices) and its regulation, and 505.5 (Graduation Requirements), as well as related instructional and business service purpose items. The board also approved first readings for policy 503.8 and regulation 503.8 R1 concerning discipline of students who make threats of violence or cause incidents of violence.
The board appointed Director Guertin as the district’s IASB delegate, approved the National FFA Convention trip to Indianapolis on Oct. 23, 2024, and appointed 'Audrey' to the Mitchell County Conference Board (minutes record only the first name).
The board approved the sale of Bus 10 to Suly Christian School for $7,600 by motion of Director McCarthy, seconded by Director Guertin (5 Ayes, motion carried).
