Warrensburg staff report progress on parks renovations, wastewater plant testing, police equipment and street projects

City staff reported Jan. 12 on a range of operational and capital items, including parks renovations, wastewater plant testing, police equipment and street work.
Parks Director Deal introduced new Assistant Parks Director Tony Albertina and said Albertina joins the department with more than 15 years of experience and a master's degree in Parks and Recreation. Deal said front desk and lobby improvements at the community center are funded in part by a $60,000 Marion Glazebrook Foundation gift. Demolition of the old front desk and carpet removal in the senior center and locker area are underway, and Deal said the contractor expects the work to be complete by April 1. The Park Board will accept public comment on fees at its Jan. 28 meeting.
Interim Public Works Director Adlich reported contractors are working near Grover and Maguire on signal poles and sod, and that at Lion's Lake concrete work for the floating bridge foundation and deck bump-outs is in place. Adlich said the contractor for the police department solar project is taking final measurements and the project is scheduled to start at the end of January.
Adlich also reported the wastewater plant expansion is proceeding: the west plant tank is being filled and undergoing leak testing, the east plant has a final concrete pour scheduled this week followed by leak testing, and reed bed installation has been completed and will be tested.
Police Chief Munsterman said three officers are currently in field training and five applications are ready for interview. He reported the department has received Axon equipment and ticket printers; batteries for weapon red dot sites will be replaced annually and training covered shooting without a red dot if the device is not available. City Manager Schrage said staff are closing out the year-end financial audit with auditors onsite and that street maintenance crews are performing concrete removal on Cedar Court to reduce project costs.
