CFO reports FY25‑26 finances on track; chief outlines station work, deployments and wildfire activity

CFO Crystal Sublette told the board on July 7 that, through May 31, 2026, total revenues for the fiscal year were approximately 87.5% of the annual budget to date, with property taxes the primary revenue source. Sublette said salaries, wages and benefits accounted for roughly $36.9 million, representing about 78.5% of the annual budgeted expenditures and 80.9% of year‑to‑date spending.
Sublette said the capital projects fund stood at about 95.8% and that staff were preparing roughly $8,000,000 in reimbursement requests to Apple for final reimbursement within the next few weeks. She reminded the board that financial reporting would next appear in September and that the fiscal 2026 audit work was scheduled for October–November.
In his operational report Chief Edwards said new Type 1 engines are expected to arrive later this month with service placement planned in September and that Station 35 is structurally complete pending AT&T fiber installation and furniture purchased with a pending fund transfer from the Station 37 renovation project. The chief said the "hexagon" project team reported the project is largely back on track.
Chief Edwards also summarized regional wildland activity: he reported approximately 706 fires in the Great Basin region that had burned about 220,000 acres so far this season and noted Truckee Meadows personnel were deployed to support suppression efforts in Alaska, Utah, Arizona and Southern Nevada. He said all local TM stations are fully staffed despite deployments and recounted May call statistics (1,696 total incidents; 810 medical incidents; 71 vehicle accidents; 47 fires).
On procedural items the board approved consent items a through g by motion (moved by Commissioner Hill; seconded by Vice Chair Garcia); the motion carried unanimously. Before adjournment the board announced a closed session to discuss labor issues; a deputy district attorney directed interested members of the public to the caucus room for comment after the closed session.
