The Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Krotz Springs on May 13 unanimously adopted a millage rate of 8.52 MILS for 2025 and approved routine financial and personnel actions.
Mayor Carroll B. Snyder called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and the board approved minutes from the April 8 regular meeting and a motion that outstanding bills be paid. The board also approved the town’s Financial Statements and Reconciliation Worksheets by unanimous vote.
The board took a formal roll-call vote to “adopt the Millage Rate of 8.52 MILS for the year 2025.” The roll call recorded yeas from Craig Burghdoff, Larry Martinez, Cindy Stelly, Nyssa Godwin and Keith Ardoin.
Chief Susie Snyder recommended hiring Logan Bates as a full-time police officer at $16.00 an hour, pending Matrix screening. On a motion by Cindy Stelly, seconded by Craig Burghdoff, the board approved hiring Bates with a three-month probation period and eligibility for benefits after that probation. The motion was carried by roll call.
Mayor Snyder told the board the town purchased property from Delores Sanders for $30,000. He said the town would like to install stadium lights at Nall Park and that concrete at the park needs replacement; he proposed using ARPA funds for the work and said staff will contact an electrical engineer to move the project forward.
During public comment, Joey Melancon raised concerns about burning behind the horseshoe near the town sewer lift station, and Melvin Comeaux said the town is awaiting a statue for the Veterans Memorial. The board also approved moving the June 10 town meeting to June 11 at 6:30 p.m. and noted an award ceremony for Citizen of the Year Keith Ardoin on June 10 in Port Barre.
The meeting closed after the board heard several community announcements, including a Second Harvest distribution May 20–21, an Employee Appreciation Banquet on May 23 and a Memorial Day program on May 26.
