Krotz Springs aldermen approve two police hires, fire-board appointments and Riverview Mardi Gras parade

Chief Susie Snyder said Porche passed the Matrix exam, will receive firearm-safety training and will be trained with a taser and spray as part of his preparation. The re-hire motion for Carlo Silvio passed by roll call with all present voting yes and one member absent. The motion to hire Porche likewise passed by roll-call vote with all present voting in favor; the transcript records that Porche will be eligible for town-offered benefits after completing the three-month probationary period.
The board also appointed Allen Cox and Travis Barker to the Fire District 1 Board for two-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2025. Allen Cox's appointment passed unanimously; Travis Barker's appointment carried with Aldermen Martinez, Godwin and Ardoin voting yes and Alderman Cindy Stelly recorded as abstaining; one member was absent. The transcript does not specify reasons for the abstention.
On events, public commenter Blake Quebedeaux asked the council to allow ATVs and side-by-sides in the Riverview Resort Mardi Gras parade under certain conditions (pulling trailers, business-affiliated units, and naming the town as additional insured). The council approved the Riverview Resort Mardi Gras Parade scheduled for Feb. 8, 2025 by unanimous vote.
Maintenance topics discussed included a proposal from Mayor Pro-tem Keith Ardoin to conduct a gas meter survey following three incidents of unaccounted gas, a note from Maintenance Supervisor Nina Snyder that crews will begin digging ditches, and Mayor Snyder's statement that District 6 will help repair drainage on Cypress Street and a subsequent location by Travis Martinez. Nina Snyder also reported a washout at Nall Well; Mayor Snyder suggested installing a 4x8 grating.
The meeting closed after a unanimous motion to adjourn.
