Administrators report enrollment, special-education counts and plans as school year begins
Summary
District administrators reported fall enrollment figures—high school 206, middle school 201 (grades 5–8, nine new students), Ellis 310—and noted 123 students with IEPs (12 in early childhood). Staff also discussed behavior-management goals, athletics participation and technology rollouts.
Administrators updated the Clinton County R-III Board on the district’s start-of-school status during the Aug. 21 meeting.
High school administrator Dr. Brandon Burns reported the high school’s enrollment at 206 students, highlighted behavior-management as a priority and summarized staff survey work. Middle school leader Mrs. Kriley reported 201 students in grades 5–8, including nine new enrollments, and described steps to smooth the fifth-grade transition; the middle school will replace individual “Tiger tickets” incentives with monthly incentives.
Dr. Turner said Ellis Elementary’s total enrollment is 310 and noted that staff member Erica Watts now has a dedicated space and will provide coverage where needed. Special-education director Dr. Clark reported 123 students currently served with individualized education programs; 12 of those are in early-childhood services. Dr. Clark outlined service goals for the department.
Athletic and extracurricular participation numbers were presented by Mr. Hunter Adkins: 34 football, 19 volleyball, 26 band, 19 softball, 10 cross-country and 8 golf participants. Adkins also announced a pop-tab collection for Ronald McDonald House. Technology director Mr. Andy Hall reported that staff received new devices and that students in grades 5 and up have Chromebooks; he said his goals include documenting technology procedures and completing the device transition.
Board members discussed going cashless at events; they agreed tickets would be cashless while concessions may accept cash or cashless payments.
