Council adopts emergency ordinance to repair recreation center pool lights

At the Oct. 2 City Council meeting, members unanimously approved an emergency ordinance to fund repairs for indoor pool lighting at the recreation center.
Councilmember Woesch introduced Bill 64-60 and said the measure authorizes the mayor and city clerk to sign agreements with Lighting Associates and Guaranty Electrical Company for emergency repairs totaling $24,908. The council moved to suspend rules, allowed a second reading and voted to adopt the measure; the clerk recorded the motion and the mayor announced the ordinance as 24‑45.
Discussing the purchase, Councilmember Woesch said city staff negotiated with original vendors to achieve favorable pricing and noted the replacement LEDs should outlast the failed fixtures. “So I fully support this… we are going to be coming out ahead, with this because we'll be getting the newer generation of LED,” Woesch said, adding he expected the new fixtures to last more than 10 years.
Why it matters: The measure covered urgent repairs to city recreation infrastructure and was enacted as an emergency ordinance to allow immediate repairs. The contract is limited to the specified vendors and dollar amount announced to the council.
The ordinance passed by a council vote recorded as unanimous on Oct. 2 and the city will proceed with the repair agreement.
