Cayce approves $609,749.40 contract for Airport Boulevard gateway landscaping

Cayce City Council voted Aug. 20 to award a contract to Chason Landscaping to install landscaping for the Airport Boulevard gateway project at a corrected base-bid amount of $609,749.40.
City Manager Michael Conley said the project is the first component of a broader gateway effort funded through regional coordination and fundraising, and that the installation funds will come from the Central Midlands Council of Governments. City Attorney Will Dillard asked the council to ensure the funding source was clear; Conley confirmed the COG funding and partner contributions would cover the project costs.
Council Member Hunter Sox moved to approve the award; Council Member Byron Thomas seconded and the motion passed unanimously by roll-call vote. Sox said the corridor project is “going to be huge for the Airport corridor, and really for the Midlands in general,” and thanked the Midlands Business Leadership Group and Lexington County for significant funding support.
The approved contract includes a one-year maintenance clause; Conley said ongoing maintenance responsibilities for the corridor will be shared proportionally among Cayce, West Columbia and Springdale and that the technical committee is finalizing details and a maintenance plan.
Next steps: Staff will execute the contract with Chason Landscaping and return any additional maintenance-cost allocations or schedule details to the council when the technical committee finalizes the maintenance plan.
