Mayor Russell Weaver reviewed options for filling a current council vacancy at the Oct. 30 work session: leave the seat vacant, advertise for applicants, or wait until the 2026 election and let voters decide. The council reached consensus to place the matter on the regular meeting agenda with a recommendation to advertise for applicants (option 2).
Councilmember Robbie Waters reported he had completed a pole count and proposed re-opening the town’s Hometown Hero Banner program. The proposal will be considered at the council’s regular meeting; no funding, application details or schedule were provided at the work session.
The work session ended at 7:02 P.M.; the Town Administrator Debra A. Valentine-Smith recorded the minutes. Next procedural step: the council will vote on whether to advertise for applicants at the regular meeting.
