Sharpsburg seeks engineering help after culvert clearing fails to stop standing stormwater

Mayor Russell Weaver told the council at the Oct. 30 work session that the culvert running between the EMS building and 112 W. Chapline St. has been cleared of sediment by Huntzberry Brothers and R.W. Services but that standing stormwater and related sewer/storm-drain issues persist.
Councilmembers agreed the problem will require professional engineering services and assistance from Washington County. For immediate relief, the council asked R.W. Services to provide a quote to regrade the area to improve stormwater flow. The work session did not authorize a capital project or approve a contractor; the town will solicit an engineering assessment and obtain cost estimates before any funding decision.
No schedule for an engineering report or funding was given during the work session. Staff will follow up to obtain an engineering quote and the grading estimate from R.W. Services.
