The Environment and Parks Committee discussed Resolution 2024‑R52, authorizing the mayor to apply for NatureWorks grant funding through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for an all‑inclusive recreation field at Kleckner Park.
Mrs. Waxcar (staff) told the committee NatureWorks reopened its grant process and that the agency would accept applications as long as the city showed the application was in process by Sept. 15. "NatureWorks usually comes out with their grant funding much earlier... they put it on hold. And so now they've opened up the grant process again," she said.
Staff estimated the overall project at "just over $1,000,000," and reported about $760,000 already secured from other sources. Mrs. Waxcar said the county allocation for NatureWorks is about $115,000 for the county and the city will apply for an appropriate portion. The committee agreed to postpone action and take the item to second reading at the next regular meeting so the administration may complete the application.
Ending: The committee asked staff to proceed with the application process and return with any updated funding commitments at the next reading.
