The board's chair opened the meeting by stating the session complied with the Open Closed Meeting Act and that notice had been published in the Asbury Park Press and Atlantic City Press and posted at the board office at 307 Frog Pond Road and at the Willow Lake Harbor school clerk's office. After roll call established a quorum, the board voted to approve the meeting agenda by voice vote.
The board then took up a motion to approve personnel items A–D. The motion was made and seconded; the chair thanked those who worked on the negotiations with the teachers' union. "I just wanna take a brief moment to thank everyone who worked on the, negotiations committee between the teachers, union," the chair said, noting work to complete negotiations before July 1. A roll call vote recorded affirmative votes from the members called and the motion carried.
During the public comment period the board reiterated public comment rules, including a three-minute time limit per speaker and a request that residents first attempt to resolve concerns with school administrators. A member of the public spoke in general terms about having "learned a lot" and suggested some language changes for future consideration.
In the board forum, members offered thanks and praise to outgoing superintendent Abby for her leadership and for work the board said helped change district culture. One member noted June is Mental Health Month and recounted a student who disclosed struggles, urging that staff and families encourage students to speak up about mental health concerns.
The board announced its next meeting for July 16, with an executive session at 6 p.m. and a public session at 7 p.m., and adjourned following a voice vote.
