The East Hampton Town Board processed a slate of resolutions and permit actions at its July 7 work session.
Approved items (voice votes unless otherwise noted) included: retaining historic‑preservation consultant Robert Heffner for Edwards House restoration (not to exceed $30,000); a budget modification moving $416,808 from the septic rebate line to water‑quality improvement grants; amendment of an urban renewal map to divide Parcel 55 into two residential lots; acceptance of a scenic and conservation grant for 240 Westlake Drive in Montauk; acceptance of security and undertaking for urban renewal parcel work; and renewal of the town’s cable franchise agreement with Cablevision Systems East Hampton Corp. Several of these items were approved by the board on the record with the clerk asking "All in favor? Aye."
On permits, the board considered a seasonal permit for Montauk Yacht Club private surf lessons and debated hours of operation before approving the permit (committee recommendation) with an expressed desire to limit impacts and ensure no parking is permitted for the activity.
The board also considered and approved a resolution (board action) to deny further permits to Pop Up Workout LLC for fitness classes at 146 Montauk Highway for the remainder of 2026 on the grounds that repeated, paid fitness classes at that private green have shifted beyond "special event" status and unduly burden community resources; the resolution passed after discussion and a recorded roll call that included several aye votes and one abstention.
Finally the town authorized commencement of legal action against owners of an oversized welded structure at 8 Old Montauk Highway to secure compliance with building and zoning requirements; board members described the step as a tool to obtain compliance rather than an immediate litigation filing.
The meeting concluded with a motion to enter executive session to discuss CPF real estate, personnel, legal advice and litigation.
