Chickasha council approves county emergency warehouse at 907 Illinois; ARPA-funded van among equipment

The Chickasha City Council voted to allow Grady County to build an emergency management warehouse at 907 Illinois after representatives described the project and its role in county emergency response. Bill Flores, interim emergency management director for Grady County, said the building will be used to store specialized equipment and to position assets strategically across the county.
"That building will hold some equipment like our $400,000 comms van that can be rolled out," Flores said, describing additional swift-water and dive teams and the building’s role in redundancy for 20 local fire departments. Flores also noted the county had already gone through board of adjustment and planning commission reviews.
A council member (who identified themselves as recusing from the matter at the start of the hearing) stepped away from the vote. Council then moved, seconded and approved Ordinance 2026-17 to allow the use-on-review for the property. Staff said the building will be secured with fencing and cameras and that the city will coordinate flood-plain corrections with city development services as part of the site preparations.
The project is ARPA-funded per the applicant’s presentation. Council agreed to the use-on-review and authorized staff and the applicant to proceed with permitting and construction coordination. No dollar amount for the building itself was provided on the record; council directed staff to continue coordinating site remediation and security measures.
