Rails on Trails asks board to formalize Spooner high-school ski team as district-sponsored club

Hagen said the group is a nonprofit that has partnered with the school for nearly 30 years, provides insurance and other self-supporting resources, and last year had about 20 high-school athletes. She said becoming a district-recognized club would allow the team to receive an activity account and school support while the club remains self-sustaining financially.
District staff explained that board policy was updated in the past to create club-recognition rules (similar to how the trap team was handled) and that formal recognition would mainly establish an activity account and administrative supports; coaches and insurance remain the tribe of the nonprofit, not the payroll responsibility of the district. A board member moved the recommendation to the regular meeting; the item will be put on the agenda for a future vote.
