Council approves $31,000 change order for 5th Avenue North reconstruction

The Watertown City Council voted unanimously to approve Change Order No. 2 for the 5th Avenue North neighborhood street reconstruction (Project No. 2503) to Site Works Incorporated, adding roughly $31,000 and bringing the contract price to about $3,051,214.85.
City Engineer Justin Peterson told the council that most underground utility work is complete and that the change order addresses soft spots encountered during utility installation, with an estimated city share of roughly $2,549,000 and a WMU share near $1,000,000. Councilman Allen moved the change order and Councilman Peters seconded; Finance Officer Bob Zine called a roll and all voting members present voted aye.
Councilman Hoyer asked where the soft spots were located, and Peterson said they appeared near Broadway where water tends to collect. Peterson and staff said the adjustments are typical for trenching and utility work.
The motion passed unanimously; no conditions or amendments were recorded.
